What is an Eye Exam?

An eye exam is a thorough assessment our experienced optometrists conduct to evaluate your visual acuity, eye health, and overall ocular function. This comprehensive process involves a series of tests and evaluations that provide detailed insight into your eyes' condition.

Why are Eye Exams so Important?

Full medical eye exams are your proactive measure against potential vision issues and ocular diseases. They are a crucial diagnostic tool to detect conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration in their early stages, enabling timely intervention and preserving your precious eyesight.

How Often Should You Have Your Eyes Examined?

We align with the American Optometric Association's recommendation of an annual eye exam for those who wear eyeglasses or contacts. However, certain medical conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure may necessitate more frequent examinations. Individuals above 60 should prioritize yearly exams, while those over 40 should consider them every year.

What to Expect During an Eye Exam

Our skilled optometrists will discuss your medical history and any current vision concerns during your visit. We will then conduct painless tests to assess various aspects of your eye health. Rest assured, the process typically takes around 30 minutes and will provide you with comprehensive insights into the state of your vision.

How to Prepare for Your Eye Exam

To make the most of your eye exam, consider these simple preparations:

  • Bring a list of all medications, including over-the-counter and herbal supplements
  • Have a copy of your current glasses or contact lens prescription on hand
  • Arrange for transportation if we *dilate your eyes
  • Jot down any questions you have for our optometrists

*We utilize a special test called Optos, which can often replace dilation

After Your Eye Exam

Following the exam, your optometrist will discuss the results with you and recommend any necessary treatments or prescriptions. If we did dilate your eyes, expect some temporary blurriness. Remember to wear sunglasses outdoors and avoid driving if your vision is affected. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us.
